Highlights of the trip

Days 1 to 3

Faroe Islands - The Land of Can Be

Green and hilly, coasts with creeks and steep cliffs, fresh and invigorating wind, the Faroe Islands (62°N) present themselves for our first stopover. The history of this ancient Viking territory is not well known: according to legend, it has been inhabited since the voyage of St. Brendan, an Irish monk who was looking for - physically - paradise when he came across an "island of sheep, a paradise for birds". You will explore this paradise through its villages and spectacular scenery on land and by boat.

Days 3 to 5

Iceland - Land of Ice and Fire

We arrive in Reykjavik (64°N), the capital of Iceland, on the day of the summer solstice, a central astronomical event in the royal sagas.

Two degrees from the Arctic Circle, the sun sets on the horizon and you enter one of the longest days of your life; it will last eight days.

A land of ice with roaring volcanic activity, the island's interior is virtually uninhabited. You will visit the Perlan Museum, which will introduce you to the specifics of Icelandic nature upon arrival. The next day, you will enter the interior, passing by the Geysir geothermal field, the Gullfoss waterfalls and the Parliament plains, the historic heart of the Icelandic nation where the village chiefs used to sit.

Days 5 to 8

Ilulissat - The Arctic Circle

Continuing westwards, we extend this endless polar day in Greenland, above the Arctic Circle. Arriving in Kangerlussuaq, you will embark on a short flight to Ilulissat (69°N), where time is suspended. During a cruise on the fjord, you will see the immensity of the icebergs, white mountains drifting quietly in the bay of Disko and around which the whales play. You will also discover the way of life of the people who have adapted to the harsh climate of these boreal lands.

Days 8 to 10

Spitzbergen - Off the North Pole

Then our plane takes us to the Svalbard archipelago, more precisely to Longyearbyen in Spitsbergen (78°N), the starting point of many explorations of the North Pole. Under the tutelary shadow of the polar bear, you will discover the history of the discovery of this mining archipelago which remained for a long time at the centre of international debates concerning its administration and the exploitation of its wealth.

Days 10 to 11

Tromsø - The Gateway to the Arctic

1,050 km south of Svalbard, we reach Norway and Tromsø (69°N), which claims the title of the world's most northerly city. Here you will find the attractions of the continent, which the sun still bathes in a red and gold light.

Days 11 to 13

Vilnius - The Land of Amber

We reach Vilnius (54°N), capital of Lithuania.

Tonight you will see the sun dip below the horizon, giving way to a luminous twilight known as the 'white night'.

The historic centre of this medieval city is one of the largest in Europe, with buildings in the Baroque, Gothic, Classical and Renaissance styles. In a hot air balloon, you can fly over this beautiful ensemble in the silence of the early morning. Before leaving, you will visit Trakai, a lake region where Lithuanians live alongside Russians and Poles.

Days 13 to 16

Saint Petersburg - Imperial Russia

Finally, Russia welcomes us in St. Petersburg (59°N), its imperial capital, scene of the transfer of power in the last century. You will stroll through the long aisles of the Hermitage Museum and attend a ballet performance at the Mariinsky Theatre. Between the splendour of the Grand Palace of Peterhof and the vestiges of the Bolshevik era, you will encounter the eternal Russia: passionate, spiritual, woven with the contrasts and excesses inherent in its greatness. At dusk, a final surprise will punctuate the end of this beautiful Odyssey in the Land of the Bears.
